Dr Omar Mohamed Al-Ansari is the President of Qatar University and a distinguished academic leader with over 25 years of experience in higher education and university administration. A graduate of Qatar University's College of Engineering in 1990, he earned his master's (1993) and PhD (1999) in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas. Upon his return, he joined the College of Engineering as faculty and held various administrative positions, including Dean of Student Affairs and Vice President for Student Affairs, before becoming Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2015. He was appointed President on June 18, 2023.
Throughout his career, Dr. Al-Ansari has played a vital role in driving institutional development and national impact. He contributed to the Qatar University Development Project and led academic initiatives supporting national priorities, including research aligned with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, infrastructure innovation, agriculture, and space research.
He championed the university’s digital transformation, spearheaded by the Digital Learning and Online Education Office, and worked to enhance education, research, and institutional strategy. He has been instrumental in attracting leading researchers, deepening international collaboration, and increasing Qatar University’s academic and societal influence.
Dr. Al-Ansari is a member of numerous national and international academic organizations and has received multiple awards for his contributions. Under his leadership, Qatar University is set to continue advancing its regional and global presence, responding to national needs while elevating its research, teaching, and innovation outcomes.
