Real-Time Urban Digital Twin Platforms in Action: Use Cases and Challenges

Urban environments are evolving into complex, dynamic systems where real-time responsiveness, data-driven governance, and stakeholder engagement are essential. In this context, digital twins are dynamic virtual representations of physical urban systems that ingest data in real or near-real time. They provide a unified view of city infrastructure, reveal how different subsystems work together, and generate predictive insights to guide timely responses and interventions. This session will showcase live use cases –such as multimodal mobility, adaptive energy districts, construction and asset management, or emergency preparedness– and explore what it takes to deliver them at scale. It will also discuss common obstacles and how cities are overcoming them.
