Dr. Michael D. Breitenstein is a Partner and Director at Boston Consulting Group, where he co-founded and helps lead BCG’s Center for High-Stakes Auctions & Tenders and Center for Telco Networks. He is a leading expert in spectrum, network and technology strategy, as well as in auction strategy, and has supported operators, regulators and governments in more than 50 high-stakes auctions and tenders worldwide.
As BCG’s global topic leader for 5G and 6G, Michael helps clients shape the future of mobile connectivity: from optimizing spectrum use, network rollout & architecture, or commercial strategy, to defining and helping implement strategies that unlock growth in the digital and AI-driven economy. He holds a PhD in Computer Vision and Machine Learning from ETH Zurich, spent time as researcher at Oxford University and Mitsubishi Research, and began his career as a software engineer and startup founder in Switzerland and the US.
