Travelling to MWC25 Doha? Smart mobility starts at Qatar’s intelligent airport.

If you’re flying into MWC25 Doha, your journey will take you through Hamad International Airport (DOH). This is no ordinary point of arrival, it’s Doha’s destination showcase, designed to give visitors a preview of Qatar’s technology-first capital. Polished operations, intelligent systems and creative energy set the tone for everything you can expect from a city at the forefront of smart mobility innovation.

A multi-award-winning gateway

Just as MWC events set the gold standard for the world’s tech community, Hamad International is synonymous with premium-class travel. In 2024, it scooped World’s Best Airport in the Skytrax awards, often referred to as the Oscars of the airline industry, and came a close second in 2025. It remains undisputed leader as Best Airport in the Middle East, with a string of awards for best airport shopping and dining. The Future Travel Experience Innovate Awards recognised its Most Innovative Airport Initiative and it has been called out for service quality and accessibility by Airports Council International.

For over a decade, DOH has won Best Airport in the Middle East every year.

Hamad International: designed for smart mobility

The terminal complex covers a footprint larger than two Californian Googleplex campuses. Designed by global architects HOK, the space sets a precedent in scale, environmental stewardship and efficiency, with high-ceilinged concourses and over 60 gates across multiple levels. Packed with every possible comfort for travellers, the airport is controlled via an elegant array of unseen technology operating seamlessly in the background.

Intelligent operations tech enthusiasts will love

When you’re travelling to MWC25 Doha, you’ll find much of Qatar’s smart airport operations are out of sight, but their effects on speed, efficiency and convenience are instantly felt. Airport operator MATAR uses an AI-driven ‘performance cockpit’ to collect real-time data on air traffic to reduce delays, lower emissions and optimise resources. Since 2022, a sophisticated airport ‘digital twin’ has been in use; this live 3D replica supports targeted decision-making from concourse bookings to asset inventory. Trials with self-driving vehicles and robotics are further streamlining Doha’s hyperconnected travel hub.

A green thumbs up for sustainability

Guided by the circular economy ambitions set out in Qatar’s National Vision 2030, sustainability is woven into the airport’s daily operations. The airport’s heroic zero-to-landfill goal was recently fulfilled in March 2025. An advanced water treatment plant allows recycling for irrigation of green spaces including the Orchard (see below), which is found in the LEED Gold-certified Central Concourse. Abundant daylight made possible by cutting-edge architecture reduces the need for artificial lighting while also supporting optimal health during long-haul travel.

  • The Central Concourse minimises energy use by 30% and water use by 55%.
  • 100% of airport wastewater is processed and recycled.
  • DOH has Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation from the Airport Council International.
  • 3 million kWh of energy was saved in 2023 by converting to LED lighting.
  • Roughly 35,000 metric tonnes of mixed general waste are diverted from landfill every month.

The Orchard: nature and tech in harmony

One of Hamad International’s most distinctive features is the Orchard, a 6,000m2 indoor tropical garden offering canopy walks beneath a sparkling glass ceiling. Large enough to house more than two Palm Houses from Kew Gardens, the Orchard is enclosed by 1.2 kilometres of ultra-high-resolution LED ribbon, bringing art inspired by Qatari nature to life with more than 169 million pixels.

A future-ready travel network for MWC25 Doha

Connections into the capital are refreshingly simple. From the airport, the red Doha Metro line links directly to the home of MWC Doha in Qatar – the iconic Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, itself a beacon of innovation in the region. The Metro is one of the world’s most advanced rail systems and a chance to see true smart mobility in action – three fully automated lines featuring driverless trains, advanced signalling, state-of-the-art decarbonisation and record-breaking engineering – it’s all part of the city’s commitment to efficient, eco-friendly transport.

During build, Doha Metro set a Guinness World Record for tunnel boring with 21 machines operating simultaneously.

Where smart mobility and MWC25 Doha meet

Proven leadership in advanced travel solutions is exactly why Doha is the perfect city to host the first MWC event in the region. That’s also why we’re featuring a Smart Mobility summit tailored to policy makers, mass transport experts and digital knowledge brokers.

Your inbound journey sets the scene for the big ideas brought to life, event excellence and world-class hospitality you can expect at #MWC25Doha, the most important technology gathering in MENA.
